You could describe this book as the Conveyor of the Message that Agriculture has been awaiting for about a Century-and-a-half. I am pleased that Zeigler honours the Memory of Maynard Murray, who pioneered the broad Concept of the “raw” application of Sea-Solids to Broad-acre Farming.
He does, of course, make the pivotal departures from Murray, in that he EXCLUDES all that unwanted NaCl, and INCLUDES the vital Marine Biota. Yep. that is the Revolutionary Step forward so greatly needed.
Here in Australia, with the most leached and generally deficient soils on the planet, this knowledge is even more precious than the water that we have so little of. Speaking of his inclusion of Marine Biota, Ziegler…perhaps not aware of this prior work…effectively highlights the Century-old insights of Lorenz Hiltner, who, filled the vacuum left by Von Leibig and his deficient "N.P.K.” magic formula for all agriculture
[ Fortuitously, I purchased the excellent “The Hidden Half of Nature” by Montgomery and Bikle at about the same time from Acres, and was able to savor the Chapter effectively devoted to his insights. ]
I can happily report that I am handing out copies of Zeigler’s book to interested parties.
A Five Star Rating is well-deserved…..Geoff Sandford
*And he does not even consider himself to be a Writer!
