Wendell Owens: Responding to Crop Needs Through Foliar Feeding
Building upon the body of knowledge developed by Carey Reams and others, Wendell Owens has made foliar feeding a fine art. In this presentation eco-growers of all crops will learn how foliar feeds are absorbed and utilized by crops and how to design a foliar application that works in the field and is absorbed by the plant. Understand the effects of specific foliar applications on the various phases of plant growth. Learn how to determine which foliar materials are needed and when, how to mix and formulate your own sprays, and the formulas for some proven solutions to common problems and needs. While many foliar materials are not suitable for certified organic production, some are and the lessons of crop nutrition apply to all farmers.
Wendell Owens, a longtime farmer/dairyman, co-founded International Ag Labs with Dr. Dan Skow. The Minnesota-based consulting group boasts clients worldwide growing cropsy as diverse as fruits and vegetables, kiwi, grapes, apples, the mainline crops of corn, wheat, soybeans, alfalfa, and many exotics. He changed his farming ways in the early 1980s when conventional farming practices were killing fields, dropping yields, and leading him to ruin. He not only changed his own practices but now works with growers managing far in excess of 1,000,000 acres. He and his family manage a 400-acre farm, some organic, in south-central Minnesota raising corn, soybeans and alfalfa.
